W&D Goes to Scandinavia: A Guide To Stockholm, Sweden

Travel & Leisure

Better late than never, they say! This month we’re looking back at our trip to Copenhagen, Norway, Stockholm, and Berlin last October. I’ll be sharing my favorite moments of the trip and giving you some shops, restaurants, and bars to add to your future itinerary.

After deciding to relax in Norway for an extra day, we knew our trip to Stockholm needed to be somewhat deliberate and planned out. We didn’t make a dent in our list of shops and restaurants, but did cross a few great locations of our list. The most memorable moments of this city was a long, tipsy meal at Ekstedt, the galleries at Moderna Museet (specifically the Picasso) and our walks along the cobblestone streets of Old Town (Gamla Stan).

Wit & Delight’s Guide to Stockholm, Sweden

WHERE WE ATE

Ekstedt: Miraculously, we got off the waiting list and into our seats at Ekstedt! The food at Ekstedt is all prepared simply: No electric cookers, no gas burners; just heat, soot, ash, smoke and fire. It was fresh and inventive, the staff was polite and charming, and as you may imagine, the smells were incredible. It was a very decadent dinner but one we will remember for a long, long time.

Sture Hof: We went for the seafood and people watching! Sture Hof has a long history of being the place society members mingled. We had a heaping platter of seafood and really fine breads. Felt like a decent Swedish experience to have on the first of two nights in Stockholm.

WHERE WE SHOPPED

Aplace: This big, beautiful store is your one-stop shop for dressing in progressive fashion labels like a true Stockholm dwellers. Just make sure you’re in all black– this appeared to be the unofficial uniform of the city.

Nitty Gritty: My absolutely favorite shop(s) of the trip. The larger men’s store houses everything a well-dressed man could need: sneakers, sweaters, outerwear, eyewear, fragrances, barbershop, all in one beautiful space. Visit the women’s shop for a similar (more intimate) experience next door. You’ll find a tight edit of labels they carry here.

Acne Archive (Outlet): Years of samples and inventory from seasons past are packed in this treasure trove for Acne lovers. Stop in to hunt for hard-to-find designs you regret not snatching up while you could!

WHERE WE DRANK

I’ll be honest: by this point in the trip we all needed a break from the booze! I skipped the bar on the first night in town, and our dinner at Ekstedt was boozy enough we didn’t need to have a nightcap.

Amazing that you got a table at Ekstedt! It sounds great. We went to Vassa Eggen, Taverno Brillo and Riche and thought Stockholm food was incredible. I’m going to have to do a belated post on it too at some point!

This place is amazing, I loved it over there, especially where food is very tasty. But the last time I went there I was on business and I couldn’t stay long.

I wanna be there forever.
