If this summer was all about change, this fall will be about trying new things. Everyday is different when you throw a newborn into the mix, even though he pretty much does the same thing every day: eat, poop, nap, cry, and occasionally, smile. We’ve promised ourselves we’d stay adventurous despite our lovable and unpredictable first born. I feel totally uncool saying that getting out of the house was a huge deal for us in the first couple weeks. Now, we’re bopping all over town, taking new classes, and making new friends. Being as introverted as I am, it feels surreal to actually seek out social activities. Who says we can’t change?

Our friends at Curate tasked us with sharing three new things we’ve tried that, inspired by their curation of wonderfully surprising ingredients. Turns out babies make the simplest activities a lot more interesting! Without further ado, here’s what we’ve been up to!

New Thing #1: I’ve taken up baby yoga

They say you should do something that scares you every day. Well, this was very scary to me! I mean, what if I’m the only mom who keep her baby calm? Turns out baby yoga is the exact opposite of what I expected, in fact, babies and yoga are a great combination. If you are thinking about trying out a class, make sure you come prepared for blow outs and spit ups, but also don’t forget to bring a snack for yourself. August is a little ham and sometimes class leaves me pretty hungry. I’ll throw a Curate bar in my bag incase I get the crankies because we don’t need both of us to be irritable and hungry!!

New Thing #2: We’re taking (healthy) cooking classes!

I’m a huge fan of taking risks in the kitchen, but I was feeling a bit in rut when it came to my recipe repertoire. With Joe and I both feeling ready to lose a couple pregnancy lbs, we took a cue from the curated ingredients in Curate bars and looked for a cooking class that would lead to more confidence in combining unexpected flavors while keeping our meals healthy.

We signed up for a couple classes at Cooks of Crocus Hill to give us an excuse to get out of the house for some quality time just the two of us. We had so much fun and learned a ton about eating a high-protein and plant-based diet.  It’s really about mixing the right ingredients, not just the calories you’re putting in your body. We’re adopting the 80/20 approach when it comes to “paleo” living, because life is a little too crazy right now to indulge a little bit. Luckily, we’ve found a great option for satisfying our cravings without wrecking our diet completely. In fact, we often fight over who gets the last Curate Salted Decadence bar. They’re our favorite.

New Thing #3: We’re taking our first trip as a family of three

We’re preparing to cross international borders as a family of three in early November. August, Joe and myself are heading to Banff. As soon as the tickets were booked, the questions started coming. What do we do about a car seat? Do we bring the Bugaboo? How much are we going to pay in baggage fees? Surely it is possible to travel nimbly with a child but it’s going to take some preparation. Let the packing lists begin, and stay tuned for a recap of the trip.

Sounds wonderful! Those Curate snacks are beautiful and yummy.

Question: who made the black loafer shoes in the first photo?

Traveling with babe is not as hard as I thought it would be. I was super SUPER nervous the first time back to the US with a then 7 week old on a 8.5 hr plane ride. Atlas has been a trooper with travel, he is definitely living up to his name 🙂 Email me with any questions, I’m happy to help with ideas if needed. I know there are also PLENTY of blog posts around the interwebs on this subject. xo
