Try this Grapefruit Juice for a Healthy Glow

Health & Wellness

Get ready to use those limes for more than margaritas! The last thing I want to do in the summer is layer more onto my skin. To combat the toll sun and heat takes on my face, I shift my focus to what I’m putting into my skin, not just on it.

After one too many happy hours or dinners out, this quick and healthy juice with grapefruit, celery and lime is my preferred way to sip my way back to healthy skin. The recipe makes about 2 servings so it’s perfect for a quick morning jolt or low sugar afternoon pick-me-up. Or, drink it all up for breakfast! For the best results, I like to make a few batches and sip over the course of an entire week or two. All you need is a good blender or juicer and about 5 minutes. If you opt to use a blender like me, you’re getting all the benefits of the fiber from the fruit and vegetable in this recipe. But juicing allows you to absorb the nutrients really quickly.

Sweet and tart, I’ve grown to love the rich flavor of grapefruit in my 20s. It gives this juice a lovely color and lots of Vitamin C, a collagen-boosting essential. Like tomatoes, it also contains lycopene which can heal skin from sun damage, making it the perfect base for a summer skin remedy. Celery is the real skin star in this juice as it helps to lower inflammation, fight free radicals and reduce bloat. Two stalks, please! The lime offers a zesty flavor to this juice while boosting skin with more Vitamin C and offering up anti-bacterial properties. The fresh herbs round out the flavor of this juice, and mint, in particular, aids in healthy digestion which promotes a healthy gut, the foundation for what happens on the outside of your skin.

Together, these ingredients make a killer combo to get your glow back this summer, and it tastes delicious too.

 Here’s what you need:

  • 1 grapefruit, skin removed and cut into chunks
  • 2 stalks of celery
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Fresh mint and basil leaves, a few of each

(If the flavor is too tart for you, try adding 1/2 cucumber)

Blend together until the juice is at your desired consistency.

I really love grapefruits, they’re not overly sweet like oranges usually are! Perfect recipe!

Love this simple recipe! Does the cucumber add a little sweetness?

Love, love, love this idea. It’s such a great summers drink idea – It sounds soooo refreshing and tasty as well. The fact that grapefruit is good for your skin and metabolism is a huge bonus; I’m going to have to add this into my routine.

Have a great week 🙂

I hate being the summer-pooper, but celery, grapefruit and lime are among foods that contain psoralens, a molecule that makes skin more prone to age spots when you expose yourself to the sun. You seem to care about skin care, so I felt compelled to bring it up.
