The Rise of the High-Waisted Denim Skirt

I had this super cool, long denim skirt in high school. It was from J.Crew, made from thick denim– real denim, the kind that you had better not air dry or else you’d be living with red marks across the waistline for days. I’ve thought about this skirt over the past decade. It’s one of those style choices that marked my age in pictures, clearly illustrating the fact I entered high school as people prepped for Y2K. It is our generation’s Bell Bottom. When I declared excessively flared jeans “soooooooo IN” while in junior high, my mother was mortified.

And then, as almost everything does, the long denim skirt came back with street style gusto. While I’m not totally game for going all Britney and Justin at the VMAs, I’m into the high-waisted/knee length combination. And I’d bet  J.Crew will be carrying my beloved ankle-length frock again, too… and very soon.

The lesson is simple here:  buy good denim, and for god sake…don’t throw it away.
