W&D Gift Guide: For the Head & Heart

Friends, it just about that time of year. While we will be providing gift guides for every man, woman, child and pet in your life, we wanted to start this series off with a lists of gifts that support organizations that will need it the most.

We are rooting for unity and togetherness after this long election season, and while it has come to a close, the rhetoric has left a lasting effect on women, minorities, and LGBT+ communities. So before we get into our gift guides for every man, woman, child and pet in your life, consider putting your money where your heart is and support one of these causes by making a donation on behalf of someone you love. We’ve designed some handy printable cards to make it easier to gift to that special someone.

Here’s a list of ogranizations that need your support this year.

+ Planned Parenthood// The landmark women’s organization faces the danger of becoming defunded in the upcoming months. Planned Parenthood provides healthcare and health education to women across the country, in addition to “leading the reproductive health and rights movement.”

+ Project Vote// The organization’s mission is to “to build an electorate that accurately represents the diversity of this nation’s citizenry, and to ensure that every eligible citizen can register, vote, and cast a ballot that counts.”

+ Still Kickin’// Still Kickin’ chooses a Hero every month and gives them the profits of their t-shirt sales in an effort to show that “small acts of generosity add up to something so much bigger, and that we are all so much stronger than we think we are.”

+ League of Women Voters// Since 1920, The League has made sure a woman’s right to vote is secure in our democracy. The nonpartisan organization “encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.”

+ Girl Scouts of America// Daisy Low founded Girl Scouts in 1912 with a “mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.”

Islamic Society of North America// ISNA is one of the largest Muslim organizations in North America. The organization stands by its mission of “building bridges of understanding and cooperation within the diversity that is Islam in America, ISNA is now playing a pivotal role in extending those bridges to include all people of faith within North America.”

+ Center for Victims of Torture // Did you know 44% of our nation’s refugees are victims of torture? This organization needs support more than ever. The CVT works toward a future in which torture ceases to exist and its victims have hope for a new life. This is one of the organizations I’ve already supported with a financial contribution this year.

+ RAINN// RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) “is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization.” The organization operates the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense. RAINN also carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help victims, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.”

+ She Should Run// The organization is committed to getting more women into public office. They “provide the spark for women’s political careers by inspiring more women to consider public office, and [make] the case that public service matters.”

+ Lambda Legal// The nonprofit organization is the “oldest and largest national legal organization whose mission is to achieve full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.”

+ Greenpeace// Greenpeace was founded nearly 50 years ago with a mission to “defend the natural world and promote peace by investigating, exposing and confronting environmental abuse, championing environmentally responsible solutions, and advocating for the rights and well-being of all people.”
