I can hardly believe it but the trees along River Road in St. Paul are starting to turn golden. Being one of those gals who can’t help but publicly profess my love for all things FALL, I’m already transitioning my home and wardrobe into a cozy little sanctuary. I made Joe go out and buy fire wood this weekend and you bet your bottom dollar the oversized sweaters and booties are out in FULL FORCE. For me, fall is synonymous with warm shades of brown, orange, cream, and brass. Anything that says, “Hello. Come sit and hang by the fire and forget about your work emails for the night.” My go-to way to bring this warmth into my decor and wardrobe is with metallics. Not only do they warm your space up, but they also add some much-needed shine and texture. Experimenting with metallics in different areas of your home can really make it pop. Copper and rose gold have been trendy as of late but I always come back to my mainstays: brass and gold. Here are a few ways you can spruce up both your home and wardrobe this fall that will have you feeling luxe and lovely. And don’t worry, we aren’t advocating you turn your home into Trump Tower. Winky face.

For Your Home

If you’re not afraid to mix metallics into your home in a big way, this copper tiled backsplash is for you! It adds so much dimension to an otherwise flat and achromatic palette. The high-shine copper also reflects tons of light, making the space look brighter. This kitchen is made extra special by the addition of matching copper drawer pulls and accessories like plant pots and utensil holders.

Most people aren’t bold enough to embrace a metallic backsplash, but metallic grout has become increasingly popular. I love how it adds warmth and visual interest to an all white kitchen. This image from Home Brunch gets it just right.

When the thought of redoing (or paying someone to redo) your kitchen backsplash make you and your wallet shed a tear, metallic stools are a great compromise. They pack just enough punch to look special but still mesh with the rest of your decor. You can also mix and match metallic chairs with non-metallic ones for an eclectic polished look.

This is probably the easiest way to bring a bit of metallic shine into your home– small accessories like a gold pendant light and drawer pulls. The drawer pulls stand out really well against the cabinet hues of mint and jewel-toned turquoise. Adding simple pieces like this into your kitchen (or a pendant light in your living room) is a low-cost option with little to no real renovation. It’s a win-win!

I can’t get over this bathroom! More importantly, though, I can’t stop looking at this round gold mirror. It’s truly a statement piece that might require a bit of decor commitment on your part, but it’s totally worth it if you find a piece you love. This gold plays nice with the natural wood paneling to bring in a little bit of glamour.

I can’t tell you how happy I am metallic pieces for your wardrobe are coming back in style! A little goes a long way with these metallics though, so tread lightly. If you want to start small, I’d opt for gold footwear in a simple silhouette, like the boots above. Keep the rest of your outfit pared down with distressed blue jeans and an oversized button down.

When you’re ready to make more of a statement with your shiny pieces, splurge on a fun jacket or blazer. Find one that fits like your basic black one but in gold or copper. A piece like this goes perfectly with an all-white outfit for work but also works well when the holiday season rolls around. You’ll be able to mix in a metallic jacket with your usual gamut of holiday dresses and skirts for a look that wows.

Perhaps my favorite way to bring some metallic into my daily style is with a great bag. I know how tempting it is to keep your usual brown bag close, and your everyday black one closer, but mixing in something new every now and then is a good thing. It can make you rethink how you style your wardrobe and even increase your mood. All you have to do for this one is switch up your bag.

When you’ve run out of outfit ideas for going out or date night looks, might I suggest a metallic skirt? It’s a big sartorial risk but can really pay off when worn right. The outfit above checks all of the right boxes: keep your top simple in both shape and color, keep the shoes neutral but stunning, and have some fun with it!
