Cold Weather Outfit Combos that Still Sizzle

Fashion & Style

Ever since I can remember, winter time has been an annual five-month-long battle between warmth and style. Somedays it feels like in order to bear the cold, I have to sacrifice my style pride and sport a jacket that resembles a sleeping bag. But I don’t necessarily think that should be the case. With spring not yet in sight, (only 61 days left, who’s counting though?!) I have gathered several cold weather outfits that will keep you toasty and stylin’ for the rest of winter. What is your cold weather go-to get-up or favorite way to accessorize on a chilly day?

For grabbing coffee with a friend: Layer a cozy sweater dress under a floor-length coat with a classic sneaker for a getup that feels effortless and looks stylish. If your city’s sidewalks are known for being slick, look for shoes with solid traction to avoid falling (aka not the Vans shown above). Take it from someone who knows: the only thing worse than spilling your coffee is taking a spill.

For happy hour after work: When in doubt, I always opt to wear something monochromatic. This all black combination looks chic and classy, and allows you to have fun when accessorizing.

For getting dressed in a flash: Jumpsuits are one of my favorite things to buy year-round because they are such a time saver when you’re scrambling to put an outfit together. I love the combination of corduroy with faux fur as shown above. Pro tip: Look for clothes with spacious pockets to keep your hands warm. Pockets are key for a cold-weather commute.

For a dinner out: A black and white color scheme can easily be worn day-to-night. Pair a fun skirt with all-weather boots and a moto jacket for an easy outfit that will take you from coffee to cosmos.

For a weekend brunch: Say “hello weekend” and wear the bright colored hat your friend gave you for Christmas. For added warmth, layer a cashmere turtleneck underneath a fur-trimmed coat.

For running around town: If you’re anything like me, running errands often times entails actual running. Lace up a pair of all-weather tennis shoes, and slip on jeans, a hoodie, and a wool coat. Ready, set, go!

For a day full of meetings: A muted color palette with a sleek coat always look sophisticated and clean. To give the outfit a well-rounded look, wear a classy heel and clutch.

For post-workout errands: Pack a pair of track pants in your gym bag to throw on post-sweat. Style with a short puffer jacket and sneakers for an athletic, stylish look.

For work: There is nothing better than an ultra-chunky turtleneck. I love to mix and match similar color-tones while wrapping a classic wool scarf around my neck. I finish off the look with a pair of wide-leg pants and mules.

For walking the dog: As much as I love taking my dog for a walk, doing so in sub-zero temps is no treat. To combat the cold I always make sure to wear my warmest socks, a wool jacket and a scarf I can wrap fifteen times around my head.

For a day on the slopes: Although the closest version of “slopes” in the Twin Cities could be mistaken for a large sledding hill, there is nothing like a cute ski getup. Bright colors contrast so nicely against the whiteness of fresh snow. This look has me wanting to plan my next ski day!

These ladies are so chic! That sweater dress at top might be my fave – it looks as cozy as wearing a blanket but in a totally stylish way. I have this long clutch I found at a thrift store that’s printed with a vintage photo of Hawai’i. It is completely impractical but carrying it around when it’s frosty and gray out feels like I’m adding a little bit of sunshine to my day.

Clearly it is not cold where these women live. The shoes are not made for winter weather. I live in Montreal, I know about cold.

Thanks for those tips, I struggle so much to make my winter looks fashionable. The desire to be warm and fuzzy usually wins haha, but those will definitely help me to stay fashionable for the next 60 days!

You know to look the look is refreshingly a beautiful feeling for a romantic as me. I shop endlessly in love for books, such as any topic Hillary, for looks such as any strong Nordic rise named Eric.
Shop around is not only cost effective it gave me that look outside of black and white scribbled schematic boring lines.
