I have a confession to make: I don’t really like Valentine’s Day.

There, I said it.

And come to think of it, I never have.  

Sure, I adore the idea of showering loved ones with hugs and kisses — and let’s be real, I’ll take chocolate and champagne ANY day — but the idea of having to declare all this heart-throbbing love to a person on one specific date swells me up with way too much pressure.

Plus, is it just me or is every single love-related item attached with a price tag that reads a number with one-too-many zeros on the end? You want how much for that card/necklace/heart-shaped-bowl? Uhh, no thanks. I’ll just be the girl who returns on February 15th when everything goes on sale. Kapeesh?

But there is one thing I don’t really mind (read: love) about Cupid’s holiday: all the romantic comedies, of course! And thankfully, Netflix has yet to disappoint. In fact, it’s a treasure trove filled with dozens of upbeat rom-coms guaranteed to make you laugh, tear up, and root for love. So if you, like me, are looking to embrace Valentine’s day with a little Netflix action, go ahead and get your popcorn ready because below are the five best underrated love-inspired films currently streaming.

1. Drinking Buddies

Jake Johnson, Olivia Wilde, Anna Kendrick and Ron Livingston…all in one movie…need I say more? Okay, in case you need a bit more convincing, this charming indie film follows the story of two couples who, after a weekend away together, start questioning if they’ve chosen the right romantic partners. Although it’s one of those movies for which you’re pretty sure how it will end, it sure is fun being along for the fun-filled, comedic ride.

2. Begin Again

This feel-good, pick-me-up of a movie is somewhat of a follow-up to the smash hit Once, as it was directed by the same director, John Carney. Yet, unlike Drinking Buddies, even though you might think you know how the story will turn out, just wait until it ends. If you’re a lover of music, surprises, and unconventional happy endings, I have a feeling you’ll adore this film. Plus, with Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, CeeLo Green, and Adam Levine — what’s not to love?

3. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World

Keira Knightley jumps on the rom-com train again in this quirky romantic-comedy drama, except this time she’s joined with the ultra-hilarious Steve Carell. As these two unlucky-in-love characters come together to embark on a pre-apocalyptic road trip, you’ll quickly realize an improbable romance isn’t the only strange thing that is bound to happen.

4. The Incredible Jessica James

For those of you who have ever been burned by a bad breakup and then suddenly made an unlikely connection with someone new, this indie rom-com is for you! Not only will the film’s story lift you up with joy and happiness, but it will also remind you of the importance of chance encounters. Did I mention it features the lovely Jessica Williams and hysterical Chris O’Dowd?

5. Sleeping With Other People

In the mood for a whole lot of belly-laughs? Then, hands down, Sleeping With Other People is the way to go. Acclaimed for being the modern When Harry Met Sally — yet a bit raunchier — this movie is classic romantic-comedy material. Amusing, entertaining, and knee-slapping funny, Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie make this film a definite diamond-in-the-rough Netflix gem.
