Confessions of a modern adult: My inbox terrifies me.
There is a three-digit number on the upper right corner of the mail icon on my phone. At one point, this was a four digit number. It’s not procrastination that scares me, it’s the sheer volume of email that come through on a daily basis. I tend to be a curious clicker… which means when a new product/app/site/shop appears on my screen, I usually sign up for more information, especially when I know it’s something I’d like to feature on W&D. Sometimes, I’m just curious about the company’s approach to email marketing. Either way, upon signing up or subscribing to a site, I get the onslaught of communications. Yes, yes, there is an unsubscribe button, but most of the time I go through these emails when I have some down time, or have a client who wants some competitive research. So, on a daily basis I comb through my inbox looking for an actual communication from a human being that I may have missed. Let’s be honest, that I most certainly missed.
I have found a compromise that allows me to not only continue receiving a tidal wave of marketing emails (especially the ones sent out by consulting clients– I open them ALL, you guys), but to also filter those out to a completely separate account that I can check at my leisure. The app is called Sudo, and it is designed to help create secure identities for all the things you do online: shop, subscribe, share.
We decided to share our review of Sudo here because if you’re anything like me, you want to streamline the way you’re consuming digitally. It helps to begin thinking about all the different things you do online. After making that list, it is pretty easy to see why our inboxes need to become separate online identities to help manage online information. I have a Sudo profile for online shopping, one for travel and one for Wit & Delight. The most amazing part is that I don’t have to remember multiple passwords. Seriously. How do people go through life with a unique password for each and every site?!
What is even more useful, is the Virtual Credit Card feature through Sudo. With Wit & Delight growing, we’ve opened checking and credit accounts and I’m concerned about security. We use convenience services like Instacart, Postmates, and Uber often so I’m using both my business and personal cards online all the time. So far (knock on wood), I haven’t had any issues, but Joe’s account was compromised in 2014 and we watched thousands of dollars disappear overnight. These issues aren’t going away, and rather than wait for one to arise I’m going to do anything I can to prevent it from happening.
In addition to managing your emails and creating secure credit cards, there are number of other uses for Sudo:
Since trying Sudo, that little feeling of dread with every inbox alert and bank statement is a little less stress-inducing. I still have the same number of emails, but now I can choose which inbox I want to pay attention to or ignore without (or less) guilt. If you’re looking for a new app that lets you navigate your world, safely, securely and privately, give Sudo a try.

Recently discovered your website and don’t know how I managed without it. It’s beautiful AND informative. The post about Scandinavian beds changed our lives: we immediately bought twin comforters for our bed and now both sleep better. Especially my husband who had to put up with my thrashing before.
Keep up the great work. See you tomorrow (and everyday).
Thank you SO MUCH, Kathleen! That’s always what I had hoped WD would be to readers. Your comment made my day.
I agree with the reader above! I’m so glad you’re posting regularly. I love your input (and tweets 🙂 ). Keep them coming because i’m checking every day!
