We’ve all seen the posts these past few weeks—parents sending their kids off to class, dressed in their freshly laundered first day of school outfit. We’ve seen the chalkboards, the whiteboards, the poster boards, all announcing the student’s age, grade, and a fun fact about who they are right now, at this very moment in their lives. It’s an exciting time for students everywhere! For parents, too!
Back-to-school time is always a bittersweet time of year, as we say goodbye to warm, sunny days, and hello to fall weather and changing leaves. It’s a reflective time as well, as we find ourselves thinking back on who we were this time last year, at who we want to grow into over the course of the future months.
While no members of Team Wit & Delight are embarking on our own educational ventures this year, we have been feeling the hefty weight this time of year can sometimes bring. And so, in the spirit of the season, we’re doing our own version of a back-to-school refresh. Our team is small but mighty, and we’ve got goals for this upcoming trip around the sun. We’re each sharing one (or a few!) things we’re hoping to accomplish in the coming months, plus a couple of items we have our eyes on. We may not be kids anymore, but the crispness in the air has us all thinking about new beginnings and fresh, updated wardrobes. It’s human nature, or something like that.
What are your upcoming goals for the year ahead? Are you treating yourself to any back-to-school wardrobe items of your own? We’d love to hear in the comments!
Paige’s Goal: This fall, I’m working on making journaling a priority every day. I find that when I jot things down, I am able to clear my mind and gain perspective on my internal feelings.
01
Coming from someone who has wanted to wear glasses their entire life, I am here for the blue light glasses trend. These babies are by The Book Club and come shipped in the coolest packaging, trust me.
02
Am I the only one who feels more productive when they have their hair pulled back?
Bridgette’s Goal: Read a book a month. I read all the time to my kids, but I want to read something just for me. This is a twofold goal: I love to read, I need to unwind before bed, and the Insta scroll keeps me up way too late.
01
Stay On Track Desktop Notepad
$28
Not just because I work here, but also because I have three kids (Kindergarten, Preschool, baby), work, and need to have some control in my life.
02
Colder weather it is approaching, and I’m looking for some comfy, practical, cute (IMO!) shoes to slip my feet into. Birkenstocks do just the trick.
Raquel’s Goal: I really want to get up and work out before the workday starts. Now that I’m out of school and on a (actually consistent!!) schedule, I have to get used to that. After work, it’d be so nice to feel like I can do whatever I want instead of adding in the gym and not getting home until 6:30-7. Alarm clock: set!
01
Textured Cotton Crop Cardigan
$98
Everlane has a new fall drop coming and there is a mega-textured burnt cider cardigan involved. ‘Nough said.
02
Swedish Hasbeens Classic Clog
$250
These iconic wood-heeled clogs inspired by the 1970’s sky-high version = *drool*. I want them for the later days of summer and to wear with socks once that fall weather rolls around!
Allie’s Goal: Start actively saving money. I want to give myself a budget per month to spend on eating out and Starbucks, shopping, and necessities and stick to it.
01
Ray-Ban Round Metal Sunglasses
$153
Even though summer is over, we still need to protect our eyes from those UV rays. I love the classic style of these Ray-Bans.
02
I’ve been on the hunt for a new backpack—ideally one that’s cute enough to take from work to coffee shops to post-work plans with friends. I love this one from Fjallraven’s Kanken.
Jackie’s Goal: I have two! I’m *really* (I swear) working on improving upon two of the traits I’d consider my greatest weaknesses: decision making and being on time. Anyone in my life can attest to the fact that neither have ever come naturally to me, but I am actively working on it, I swear! (Folks, I was the first to arrive at a brewery for drinks this past Saturday, and the first of four friends to decide on a brunch option on Labor Day. I’m…….trying.)
01
The Carina Boot
$188
Every pair of booties I own have seen better days. I tend to wear them into the ground (pun intended?) and am in need of a new classic black pair for the upcoming fall season. I have my eye on these gems from Madewell at the moment!
02
$249
My favorite fall/winter coat is a collarless, camel beauty from J. Crew circa 2014. It has received more compliments than I can count, but is (given its aforementioned lifespan) nearing the end of its days. Given the colder mornings we’ve been getting of late, I’m beginning to eye its replacement, and am currently coveting this belted version from & Other Stories.
Kate’s Goal: My goal for the season ahead is to track my habits. I’m focusing on the little things: water, sleep, planning my days, and moving my body. I’ve been using the Stay On Track Notepad to keep my weeks organized and dedicate my mornings to making sure I schedule time for focused work first thing in the morning.
I’ve also been focused on not buying anything I don’t really need for my closet. I did a purge and took inventory of what I was missing, what needed to be replaced, and what items I’d like to eventually find. One of these key items included a secondhand pair of nude Chanel flats for this season, as my black pair have lasted longer than any pair of flats ever purchased! As luck would have it, I scored a lightly worn-in pair on the Real Real. I also made a list of what items need to be repaired and will start with replacing some key pieces, like cashmere turtlenecks, camel pants, and crew neck cream sweaters. I’d also like to add another piece of jewelry to my collection and have my eye on a signet ring, ear cuff, or simple chain bracelet!
Perhaps this is what mindful shopping is!? It feels good.
01
Vintage inspired signet ring from Mejuri made with 14K gold and enamel.
02
Ear jewelry, no piercing required! Beautiful ear cuff from Mejuri made of 14K gold.
