8 Foundational Beauty Products I’ve Continued to Use for Years | Wit & Delight

Our August theme on Wit & Delight is all about getting back to basics. As our team was brainstorming the story ideas we’d share throughout the month, we decided we wanted to put together a list of the tried and true products I’ve continued for years. While there are a lot of beloved items I’ve tested out over time, the list of ones I’ve purchased again (and again) for years on end happens to be a lot smaller.

This post is about the things that make my life easier, the shortlist of ride or die skin-care and makeup basics I continue to reorder that truly work for me.

Browse through the items below, and my notes about why I love each one, and please let me know if you have any questions in the comments! And, as always, please keep in mind that each of our individual skin-care needs will differ, so if you’re looking for further insight about what will work for you, consider consulting a dermatologist or esthetician.

Follain Eye Cream: Firm + Brighten

$36

I’ve used a lot of eye creams over the years. In many cases, I felt like the ones I was trying didn’t do much of anything, until I found this one from Follain. I feel like I look instantly more awake after I apply it and find it to be very moisturizing.

EltaMD Broad Spectrum SPF 40

$33

This is my winter sunscreen, one I’ve been buying for years. I use it for a more matte look and feel like it does the work of three products all in one. I don’t need much more coverage than this when my skin is at its healthiest.

Neo-cleanse Exfoliating Skin Cleanser

$38

My dermatologist has told me that preventing premature skin aging is more about exfoliating than anything else. After years of trying out different skin-care products, this exfoliating cleanser was a game-changer when it came to improved texture and increased glow. The glycolic acid helps sloth away the very top layer of dull skin for a smoother, brighter complexion. I’ve bought this product over and over again for years.

Follain Dual Detox Mask: Purify + Resurface

$34

This is the one face mask I always come back to. It always feels soothing and cold when I put it on and my skin feels super clean and tight (in a good way!) after using it. As an added bonus, the smell is really refreshing. I use it once a week and never want to stop!

ILIA Limitless Lash Mascara

$28

I ditched my eyelash curler thanks to this mascara. This is one I’ve come back to time and time again. I particularly love how light the formula is and how the brush extends and lifts my lashes without leaving any clumps behind. One note to consider: It does bleed a bit, so if you have watery eyes, it might not be for you!

SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Serum

$166

I’ve tried a number of vitamin C products, some that provided absolutely zero results. This serum from SkinCeuticals is my number one pick. If you are going to buy one product to increase the overall brightness of your skin, this is where to splurge. It’s definitely a higher price point, so if you want to test it out before taking the plunge, consider asking your dermatologist if they can provide a sample!

NARS Blush in the Color Orgasm

$30

I’ve been using NARS blush in the color orgasm for years (and years). I now use the liquid formula and, in my experience, the product is a dream for giving that barely-there flushed look. I instantly look more awake and “healthy” after I apply it, and the consistency just melts into your skin and blends flawlessly. It is messy sometimes so be sure to close the lid tightly!

EltaMD Barrier Renewal Complex

$53

This product is a delicate (but still very effective) moisturizer. It’s light enough to wear under makeup while still being moisturizing enough to feel the effects all day long. I also use it at night! Combined with the cleanser and serum above, I’ve got my basic daily skin-care routine covered.
