2021 Holiday Gift Guide: Joe's Gift Picks for the Guys | Wit & Delight
This post is brought to you by Huckberry.

Editor’s Note: Longtime Wit & Delight readers (and adept newer readers too) will recognize the name in the byline as that of Kate’s husband, aka Mr. Wit & Delight. For the third year in a row, we asked Joe to share his insight on gifting to the men in your life and he, as per usual, did not disappoint. Read on for Joe’s holiday gift selects.

I’ve ventured out of my comfort zone in terms of the libations I consume while at local watering holes, so it’s time for me to begin learning the craft of making these delicious cocktails at home. We have this exact shaker here in our home bar, but I haven’t been the one mixing the cocktails these days. From what I can tell from watching bartenders (and my wife) work their magic, it will come in handy when executing this plan.

I’ve told 95% of the people I come in contact with that Kate and the kids love the sandwiches I make. Personally, I’m of the belief that a sandwich hits the spot any day, but when that Minnesota winter hits, a toasted sandwich with a side of soup is *chef’s kiss.* This toaster not only looks like it can do the job, but the aesthetic will also pass the “Kate test,” ensuring it can actually sit on one of our countertops.

“Don’t be that guy,” I’ve said to myself >50 times when considering a proper wood carrier. “You don’t NEED a firewood carrier,” I’ve lamented. As it turns out, carrying firewood by the bundle in my arms is not only inefficient, but it also totally mangles the shirt or jacket I happen to have on while fetching said firewood. We’re big believers in the warmth and ambiance that a nice winter fire can provide in our living room so if I’m not gifted this carrier, I’ll buy it myself this year.

The Cashmere Saddle Shoulder Crewneck from Wills has served me well when it comes to keeping me cozy, as winter has already arrived in Minnesota. This piece is super versatile in mixing and matching with sweatpants or with more formal chinos for times when we might find ourselves back out at public functions.

This is a tool that’s always nice to have on hand for small tasks around the house (and outdoors). Is there anything more useful than a pocketknife? If so, I don’t want to know.

When I’m not in my house slippers (I have procured a truly embarrassing amount) I’m in need of a solid pair of socks to wear beneath my boots (again, let’s not judge). These socks from Flint and Tinder look legit—and if they’re anything like the other pieces I have from the brand, they’ll be durable as hell, which is a quality I need in my socks.

I’ve noticed we have quite a lot of glassware in this house of ours, but here’s the catch: It’s all quite small and quite dainty, and, well, to be honest, that doesn’t describe me or my ability to consume liquids. These beer glasses are standard at a glance, but upon further investigation, they feature a topographic impression of Half Dome which to me is just rad. They might even fuel a conversation shift at a potentially awkward family gathering where maybe, just maybe, you end up watching a documentary where that guy climbs that wall in Yosemite—maybe.

While I typically shy away from commentary around footwear, given my career in the industry, I’m just going to give it to you straight—I’ve got three pairs of classic Crocs and I don’t care who knows it. Are they for everyone? No. Do my wife and most of my family members think they’re not-so-cool-looking? Absolutely, but I like to go against the grain, and comfort and versatility always, always win for me. I am, unabashedly, all about the Crocs. This particular pair gets bonus points from me as I love wearing camo, despite the fact I’ll never be found shooting a firearm or bow. It’s a look that will certainly be polarizing, but still, you’ll be the one feeling like you’re getting an underfoot massage with every step.

There was a time not too long ago where we’d spend the day with the kids making fresh pasta. It was always tons of fun but also very exhausting. We’ve since found this little gem of a spot here in St. Paul that makes the best fresh pasta I’ve had. Combine that with either of these sauces from Truff and … chef’s kiss.

I’ve looked at this article from different browsers on different computers and there are only two photos showing up – is this the case for everyone?
