Are heated floors worth the investment? Yes. Absolutely, hands down, yes.
Our remodel was completed during the dog days of summer, with a Minnesota winter being the furthest thing from my mind. At the time, I thought heated floors would be a nice, bonus touch to the space. Now that the temps have dipped down, they’re an absolute gift. I can attest that our SunTouch radiant floors make a marked difference in the comfort of our home. As I write this, we have yet to turn on the actual heat in this house. Between the fireplaces and the heated floors, we have been pretty toasty.
I’ve learned that a major benefit of having heated floors is the even distribution of heat. Radiant flooring distributes heat evenly so there are no cold areas on the floor, even by the windows. The floors are heated through electric cables spread out below them. Our stone floors are a natural conductor of both warm and cold temperatures. During the tail end of summer, it was lovely to walk around barefoot on the cool slabs, but now that the temps have dipped down, it’s not nearly as pleasant.
“Turning on” the floors is incredibly easy. We have SunTouch thermostats for the kitchen and living room areas, and we also have a WiFi option to adjust temperatures accordingly with the SunStat Connect. I can check the temp in my room upon waking, and heat up the floors even before I pull off the covers.
I can’t speak to retrofitting your current flooring to include radiant heat. However, if you’re remodeling your kitchen or bathroom and plan on replacing the flooring, I can’t recommend SunTouch enough.

I really love the heated floors! I would like to have this flooring in my house too. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for your comment!
The cost of electrically heated floors added to the cost of installation make electrically heated floors an extravagance and not something a prospective buyer may want to pay for. Not to mention what happens when something goes wrong. Ripping up the floors.
How have I never thought of getting heated floors?! I live in Utah and it gets so cold in the winter this would be a lifesaver. Thanks to saving money hiring a cabinet painter instead of replacing my cabinets I think I still have money in my remodel budget. Thanks for posting this!
Thanks for your comment! We really do love the end result.
