I watched Alice Through the Looking Glass the other night in 3D. I know I’m a day late and a dollar short considering that movie came out in 2016 but I’m not gonna lie I weirdly enjoyed the quirkiness and colorful imagination of the whole thing while I sipped on my dry white wine and laughed at myself and fiancé in our 3D glasses. It got me to thinking about how I need to embrace my goofy, child-like side more often, take more chances and say yes to new adventures. And it mostly just made me want to go do something fun. I mean when’s the last time you had the time of your life or laughed until you cried?
In my opinion, that’s what June is all about. Living. This is the first month of the year that really feels like summer. I remember summer break when I was little; playing outside for endless hours in the sprinkler or backyard pool. When the warm sun didn’t set until after 9 pm and you could cram in nearly 12 hours of serious playtime while utilizing your utmost imagination and outdoor creativity with all your neighborhood besties. After a long winter, which really felt like a 7-year stay in Antartica, I can’t wait for summer this year. My fiancé looked at me the other night and said, “We really need to savor this summer and soak up and enjoy every minute of it.” I agree. Over the next couple of months, I want to get back to living a little. To me this means saying yes to cabin weekends, going out on the boat with my parents on the weekends and not thinking about work or my mile-long to-do list. It means hosting backyard BBQs and just going for long walks or car rides with Muhamed in pretty neighborhoods, just because. Taking the time to breathe, truly live in the moment (and not on my phone) and appreciate the warm weather and summer sun on my skin.
This is also the month I get married (eek!); there is a lot on my mind as the 21-day countdown begins. So with all the happiness that June will bring, this month at Wit & Delight we are all about living, loving and not overthinking anything too much. We’ve been covering some more in-depth topics the past couple of weeks on the blog and this June we want to hit pause on that. I’m happy to say that this upcoming month’s content is a little more light-hearted, a bit more easy breezy, fun and fleeting, much like summer itself. Less analytical and more free-loving and creative. It’s time to sit back on a patio with our good friends and laugh about our latest dating story, or chat about what books we can’t wait to dive into this summer, or speak to how we are embracing our inner creativity this season in a way that feeds our soul and takes care of us spiritually.
If you have a funny dating story or an interesting way that you are truly embracing summer this year we would love to hear from you. Write in and tell us how you are celebrating your childlike creativity/quirkiness or what summer adventure you can’t wait to take, or maybe you have a humorous take on what to do (or not to do) at a wedding or a summer get-together. Either way, at the end of June, I will choose a light, bright and humorous contributor submission to publish on Wit & Delight. Please send submissions to: stefani@witanddelight.com by June 15 for consideration.
Happy June everyone, I hope you are enjoying the lush greenery, sunshine, warmth, and water with your closest friends and family!
