CBD 101: How It Can Help and What Products to Try

If you haven’t yet caught wind, the CBD bandwagon has arrived and many of us are hopping on. What’s CBD, you ask? It’s the non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in Cannabis Sativa and hemp that you’re seeing plastered across every type of product from oil to chocolate candies. The second most prevalent active ingredient in cannabis, CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana. Like many of you, we’ve had a number of friends share their CBD success stories with us, raving about how a topical oil or vape pen transformed their sleep or skin.

So, what’s all the hype about? Turns out, CBD boasts a wide variety of health and wellness benefits and exhibits no negative effects indicative of abuse or dependence potential. After performing a quick Google search, or even visiting a local health store, you’ll learn there is a sea of CBD products on the market claiming to cure anything from acne to anxiety. This, in tandem with society’s overall growing acceptance of medical marijuana, is what’s capturing the attention of us all, pot smokers or not. (We invite you to read Otegha Uwagba’s piece on Man Repeller, Weed Is Trending, But For Whom?, to learn about the trajectory of marijuana becoming more mainstream.)

With that said, it’s crucial that you do your research to ensure the product you’re purchasing is high quality and catered to your needs. As always, remember to take any definitive claims about CBD with a grain of salt, and to check with your doctor before incorporating any new supplements into your routine. As per Peter Grinspoon in this 2018 article in the Harvard Health Blog, “We need more research, but CBD may prove to be an option for managing anxiety, insomnia, and chronic pain.” CBD is not a cure-all, but it is a widely recommended supplement that could help those of us who deal with certain physical or mental health ailments.

To help give you a head start on your CBD search, we’ve gathered products from a few of the CBD brands that we’ve either tried ourselves or that have been recommended to us most fervently.

We’d love to hear about your own experiences with CBD. If you’ve had a positive experience (or a negative one—we’re more than open to feedback of either variety) taking CBD before, let us know in the comments section. We’re always looking for reader input and recommendations!

There’s great information here, but it’s a bummer to not see local goods, like Saintly City Supply or Stigma on this list.
