So…Do You Have Life Insurance Yet?

Health & Wellness

Brought to you by Haven Life Insurance Agency

I look back on my twenties fondly. A time where I was flat broke and could make $50 stretch for a mile, and yet always had enough money for weeknight drinks and cheap pizza. A time where the term Roth IRA meant nothing, and I was still under my parent’s health insurance plan. Ah. The good ole days, amirite?

Just kidding—don’t be like me, kids! Put aside one of those beers and put that money where the compounded interest can get WERKIN’ on your behalf—early! But that chat is for another day.

Now, as a fully realized, self-actualized grown woman, there are certain things that I have to confront head-on. One of those grown-up topics that no one wants to think of is their mortality. For some reason, the moment I finally felt like a real, honest to goodness grown-up was when I realized that people were counting on me financially (aka, my kids). After Bennett was born, Joe and I had to have some uncomfortable conversations about what we would do if something happened to either or both of us. We needed to make sure that our children would be taken care of if the worst-case scenario came true. Life comes at you fast once you’re not the only one dependent on you…well, being you.

I know enough about myself that the items that I continue to avoid are most often the most important ones to complete. Even as someone that considers themselves fairly independent with an interest in solving problems, looking for life insurance became a primary (if often avoided) to-do. But, as a small business owner (and parent), I have to be the master of my own destiny; I needed to have an understanding of all the nitty-gritty that goes into running a business and thinking about the future of my family.

As if I needed another reason to feel validated in my adulting skills, coincidentally, around the same time that I crossed life insurance off my personal to-do list, I came across an article on one of my favorite blogs, Cup of Jo, talking about her perspective that term life insurance is a necessity for parents and sharing her partnership with Haven Life.

Intrigued and wanting to do a little comparison shopping, I visited Haven Life’s website to see just how easy it would be to learn a little more. Haven Life, backed and wholly owned by MassMutual, made it simple for me to understand my life insurance needs. (For the record, me, a 35-year-old woman, in excellent health, with two kids. I decided to check out a quote on a 30-year, $800,000 policy which was estimated to be $56.48 per month.) I was also pleased to see that they have great reviews from their customers.

As someone who consistently avoids tasks because of the level of difficulty (if only in appearance), I was pleasantly surprised at the ease of site navigation—it was wholly uncomplicated to understand the process of choosing and purchasing the right policy for my needs.

Knowing how simple the application process is, I’ve also recommended Haven Life to the contractors here at W&D. It never hurts to plan for your future—even the hard-to-think-about parts.

If you are like me and were putting off searching for life insurance, consider visiting Haven Life.  And if you want even more information about when you should get life insurance or how to choose a policy, check out the recent Q&A with Haven Life over on Cup of Jo.
