We’re doing a series of product reviews here on Wit & Delight where I offer more in-depth information on tried and true products I’ve been using for months (or years) that have changed my daily routine for the better. These reviews are intended to provide detailed information on products that may be of interest to you, so if and when you’re in the market for such an item, you have all the info you need to decide whether or not to make a purchase.
Next up on the list? The Interior Define Charly Sleeper Storage Sectional we’ve owned since 2019. Let’s dive into the review, and please let me know in the comments if you have any further questions!
We purchased this sofa in 2019. We needed to find a sleeper sofa that worked in the basement family room of our previous home and could turn that space into a guest room of sorts. I had a hard time finding a sleeper sofa that was beautifully designed, had clean lines, came in a variety of fabric options, and had good reviews—specifically about the comfort of the mattress.
I’d heard that Chris Loves Julia had designed a sleeper sofa with Interior Define, a brand that had been on my radar before. I was very familiar with all of the customization options Interior Define offered. I loved that they gave you the option to upgrade elements like the cushions and the mattress, and I loved that they had a lot of pet-friendly fabric options too.
It wasn’t until I was looking for this specific kind of sofa for our home that everything clicked and we decided to purchase it ourselves. The customization options ended up being a really big deal in our choice to order this particular sofa; we could check off all of our boxes in one fell swoop.
The fabric swatches we received ahead of time were really helpful in deciding which fabric to order. Once we finally made the purchase, the ordering process was really simple. After we ordered, we got a bunch of updates along the way and it was really nice to be able to track the specific phase of production or delivery. I also remember it being easy to get in touch with a customer service representative if I ever had a question.
This was, of course, a couple of years ago before supply chain issues and delivery delays became more widespread. In case it’s helpful to know of a more recent experience, our editorial director ordered an Interior Define sofa in August and had a similar seamless delivery process! The original estimated delivery time was in December and the sofa ended up being delivered early in the first half of November.
We went with the Charly Right Chaise Sleeper Storage Sectional. Here’s a list of the design options we selected:
In my experience, this is a durable sofa that is very much so kid and pet-friendly! The marbled color is wonderful for concealing any small stains that may accumulate from normal use over time. The fabric hasn’t pilled and there are no holes. The one reason I wish I would’ve gone with a different fabric is that the pet hair doesn’t come out as easily as I’d like. I think something with less texture like velvet would lend itself more easily to pet hair removal.
If I need to remove something simple like a bit of dirt, I’ll usually just grab a rag with water on it and gently scrub, which tends to do the trick! If I need a little more assistance, I’ll use the Wash & Stain Bar from The Laundress.
The primary thing about the sofa I don’t love now is the modern style alongside the more traditional design elements in our new home. That’s of course no fault of the sofa itself, but it’s something I encourage everyone to consider when making a big purchase like a sofa (whether you think the style will transition along with you if and when your own style preferences change over time).
The only other issue is that, given the adjacent fireplace, the chaise is now on the wrong side for this particular room layout. If we do at some point sell the sofa in the process of updating the design of the basement, we may very well look into a different sleeper sofa style from Interior Define.
Interior Define on the whole is an amazing brand for someone who really likes to have control over the details of the sofa they’re purchasing. It’s a great place to go if you’re someone who wants high-quality customization but doesn’t want to pay the high price tag for it.
This sleeper sofa in particular is great for anyone who doesn’t have a guest room and still wants somewhere comfortable for guests to sleep. It’s also especially great for someone who’s planning to be in their space for a while; while certainly possible to relocate (which we did when moving to this house), the sleeper sofa is quite heavy and not super fun to move.

Thank you for being here. For being open to enjoying life’s simple pleasures and looking inward to understand yourself, your neighbors, and your fellow humans! I’m looking forward to chatting with you.
Were you able to sit on the sofa before you bought it? I live in fear of buying uncomfortable furniture!
I was not! I’d heard so many good things about the brand that I trusted it would be comfortable (but I hear where you’re coming from). Interior Define does have some storefronts throughout the US…you could check if there’s one in your area so you could test out some sofas in person!
Hi, we are considering the same sofa. One thing I didn’t see mentioned was the comfort of the couch itself. I have experienced that sleeper couches can have a very firm/uncomfortable sit. Can you share your experience on this?
Also, the Charly sleeper is listed to have a relatively shallow seat depth. How has your experience been with this? Would you have preferred a deeper depth?
Good questions! The sofa itself is definitely not too firm. It has a cozy feel when sitting on it.
I actually have never noticed that the Charly has shallow seats. A deeper seat depth isn’t something I’d prefer, but we do use the chaise when we want to really lounge!
This was very helpful. Thank you for sharing.
I’m so glad!
I am looking for a sleeper sectional for a client and having a hard time using my usual market/design center sources, so looking at reviews for “retail” store sofas. You mention that this sectional is a down/blend. As a designer the things I see (that worry me) for instance, the play in the fabric, meaning the seat cushions and back look “saggy”. Sometimes this does happen with down, and some people like the look and feel of a squishy looking sofa, but over time if the sag gets saggier, they aren’t happy with it. I will look to see if… Read more »
