It’s been a few months since a Resideo technician installed our new Honeywell Home T10 Pro Smart Thermostat with Redlink® Room Sensor in our home, and you can tell the difference. The house feels more comfortable, there’s less of a drastic temperature shift between rooms, and, best of all, there’s been a difference in our monthly heating and cooling bills.
A quick recap for you: Our 1950s house is incredibly inefficient when it comes to heating, cooling, and temperature control altogether. Because of the house’s layout, some rooms get the sun all day and get hot, while others stay downright cold. After living with these temperature swings for the last two years, we needed to address this issue. (Read more on the topic here.)
Part of the motivation is our current spending freeze. I’d been reviewing all of our expenses with a fine-toothed comb, looking for places we could cut back (or remove expenses altogether). This house is a project house, but I had no idea how much utilities would cost when we moved. Minnesota temperatures can swing 100 degrees throughout the year, so we need to be as efficient as possible.
There had to be a more efficient way to make the home comfortable without spending much money (namely, replacing both of our furnaces). As someone who loves a good challenge, I was determined to lower our energy bill.
I was extra excited about Honeywell Home’s T10 Pro Smart Thermostat with Redlink® Room Sensor because it connected with our smart home hubs. I’m all about making smart home upgrades when you can to make your house more efficient.
Before: South Side – HOT all day long; North Side – Cold
After: With the Honeywell Home T10 Pro Smart Thermostat with Redlink® Room Sensor, I can control the temperature in SPECIFIC rooms. Yes. It can be 69 in the family room and 71 in the peach room. Beyond that, the Honeywell Home T10 Pro Smart Thermostat with Redlink® Room Sensor can sense movement if a person is in the room and adjust accordingly.
Before: Adjusting the temperature was done manually via the dial. No programming function or remote capabilities.
After: I can set the temperature from my phone. I can program, heat/cool, turn on/off, and adjust any and all of the settings on the fly.
Before: Nothing. It was always a surprise (an unpleasant one) when the bill came each month.
After: I can receive a notification if the temperature shifts in one room or another and make rational decisions in the moment vs. vowing to keep the house at 64 in the winter and 80 in the summer to save money.
I can’t recommend enough making “smart” upgrades when you can. Products with apps and connections to smart home hubs like Honeywell Home T10 Pro Smart Thermostat with Redlink® Room Sensor have made a difference in the comfort of our house and our energy bill.
Oh! If you have a basement prone to leaking, I highly recommend the Resideo WiFi water leak detector. A few months back, we experienced a pretty major storm. Literally, the tiniest pool of water (about the size of a spilled glass of water) was enough to trip the sensor and send an alert to my phone. It’s nice to fix the problem immediately rather than be surprised by a flooded basement the next day.

Feels like a smart thermostat that really lets you think on how you set temperatures in rooms and comfort. I like nest and some of those, but often the oversimplicity makes its confusing to know what things are when and where. I’ll have to check it out more.
For sure, it really is a great thermostat!
