At long last we are giving you a little tour of our son’s nursery! This post was a long time coming; in fact, we shot this video a few short weeks before his arrival. Man, does it feel like a lifetime ago. And now that we’ve had a couple weeks to test-drive the space, I’ve included some tips and tricks to offer up to anyone who wants them.
Before we get into the nitty gritty, a little bit about concepting this space. We had a couple challenges with this one…the first being we didn’t want to design a gender specific nursery. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with blue and pink, it’s just a personal preference of ours. Instead we embraced all the adorable kid stuff by focusing on designing a space that would promote creativity and wonder.
The second challenge was the sheer size of this space. It’s 9′ x 7′ and in the shape of an “L.” The closet door swings outward towards the same wall a long radiator sits against, which makes one of the four walls almost unusable.
We did a lot of planning and measuring and second-guessing ourselves on furniture choices, and we ended up with a space that Joe and I are equally excited about. I gave up my need for everything to be clean and uncluttered and instead embraced the “stuff” that comes with raising a child. I mean, he can’t have enough books, am I right??
Originally we were only going to use the Cole & Son’s wallpaper as an accent with a lovely gray color from BEHR but loved the look of it so much, we decided to really go for it and turn this small room into a little forest full of fun, colorful toys and books. We enjoyed tapping into our own inner child and selected wooden toys that were reminiscent of what we both grew up playing with.
We were also fortunate enough to partner with Target to finish off the space and dive into the more practical aspects of building a nursery, from selecting a changing table to designing a “play area” in a room that barely had space for a crib.
Now that we have a couple weeks of parenthood under our belt, here are some hard and fast tips/tricks we used to build a nursery that was functional, beautiful, and full of creativity for our son:

Did you know W&D now has a resource library of Printable Art, Templates, Freebies, and more?
Thank you for being here. For being open to enjoying life’s simple pleasures and looking inward to understand yourself, your neighbors, and your fellow humans! I’m looking forward to chatting with you.
This is absolutely darling! I love how timeless that wallpaper will be; it can easily grow with him as the room changes. You are so right that you can NEVER have enough books!! Enjoy this time with him.
I totally agree!! We call them August’s Woods. He loves hanging out in here and loves to look at the patterning when we change him.
I love it! Such a sweet space for your baby boy to grow in. Thanks for sharing!
Lovely baby room!

Where did you get the rug W&D?
Hi Diana! The rug is a vintage piece I picked up a esalerugs.com a couple years ago. They are worth the hunt, I promise! Check out Frances Looms for great original pieces without having to sort through a bunch of styles.
Where is the crib from? It’s adorable!
Hi Kate! The crib is from Incy Interiors. They just started shipping to the US and we LOVE their furniture!!
I love the whole concept! The wallpaper adds such calming vibe!
The baby finds it pretty calming, too! which is really a relief 🙂
Hi! i love this space. so very inspirting. Where is the wallpaper from? thanks!
Hi Carol! It is from Cole & Sons. Thanks!
Beautiful! I’ve always loved that wallpaper and it’s super dramatic in this space.
This room is STUNNING – I am in love with that wall paper and the styling. I am moving my two eldest into a room together to make way for our next baby and i think that wall paper would work wonderfully with my fox/woods theme.
Its a gorgeous nursery Kate, just loved the feel! thank you for sharing!

Thank you!!
Hey! Do you have a source for the globe? My son is so into “the world” right now, and that one is really beautiful. This entire room is really beautifully done.
Hi KT! It is from CB2!
Lovely room! Where is the round side table from? Thanks!
Hi ash! It is from West Elm… Part of the Roar and Rabbit collection. Thanks!
Beautiful nursery. I’m 6 weeks (!) and starting to recover from the shock enough to think about things like this. Will definitely do a gender neutral nursery. Also, what book(s) did you read on sleep? Would love a recommendation.
Hi Kate,
Where is the rug from?
Where is mobile from?? Adore it
Hi Kate, is the Cole & Sons wallpaper the New Contemporary Two edition? Some of the photos of it online look very yellow, but yours looks more white. Curious where you ordered it from? Thank you!
Hi Colleen,
This is the style we ordered: http://www.cole-and-son.com/en/collection-new-contemporary-two/wallpaper-69/12147/
Hope this helps!

Hi Kate! Where did you get the wooden gorilla toy?
Hi Kate! I have been looking for a little dip-dyed wooden stool just like the one in your nursery. Do you happen to remember where you found it? Thanks!
