Taking Care/of Yourself

Health & Wellness

Over the last few months, I realize that I am human after all. The long days at work and the longer nights with August are breaking me, emotionally and physically. My mantra of “head down and plow through” is no longer working. While I’ve hit this plateau plenty of times before, my strategy of “just get through this next (month/day/week/campaign)” is no longer working. The stress and exhaustion aren’t just associated with my professional life, and I don’t want raising a child to be another task to check off my list. All these life changes have required an overhaul in the way I manage my time, health, and emotional life. More on this in the coming weeks.

As I’ve grappled with these personal changes, I’m sure you’ve noticed many articles about self-care over the last few months here on the site. From essential oils to cutting yourself some slack, I’m on a mission to find something (anything) to help with the everyday.

During the daily conversation here at the studio, I mentioned that I was struggling emotionally and physically, and immediately the conversation was shifted to inquire about my diet and vitamins. “Are you getting enough Vitamin D?” “I tried Fish Oil, and it worked wonders,” “Have you ever considered taking ginseng?” Chelsey swore by Vitamin D and Francine starts her morning with a mixture of hot water, apple cider vinegar, ginger, and cayenne pepper. Stefani practices yoga and uses essential oils and Colleen burns off stress at the gym. It seems like all of us agreed that feeling good inside isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution.

I wasn’t taking a multivitamin at the time and hadn’t since finishing my bottle of prenatals following August’s birth. Well meaning aside, I was hesitant to take the advice of my co-workers on specific supplements, simply because none of us have any idea of what we are talking about when it comes to supplements. It’s funny how easily we all become amateur pharmacologists, with nothing but anecdotal evidence and Google as our primary methods of proof, when one is looking for advice.

I’d heard of Care/of through Francine, our Content Manager, and she mentioned their service of providing a tailored vitamin and supplement solution, based on the individual’s specific needs. I was intrigued with the idea of having supplements that were custom-designed for me, as opposed to taking a multivitamin that may or may not be providing me with what my body needed.

After answering a short questionnaire, Care/of was able to put together a customized set of vitamins and supplements focusing on my needs (Energy, Stress, Skin, and Brain).

The supplements are packaged together, as needed, in foil packs ready to take on a daily basis; no thinking required. I also appreciate the subscription notification Care/of provides, I receive an e-mail close to the end of 30 days, notifying me of my next shipment.

Care/of has a Scientific Advisory Board comprised of doctors, scientists, and nutrition experts, that gave me confidence that my final selects are based on more than just anecdotal evidence. It also gave me reassurance that one has the option to opt-in to using supplements that may not be in wide use. With each recommendation, Care/of provides detail including benefits, research and any advisory notes to consult a physician (which came up with my iron supplement).

Care/of generously provided everyone here at Wit & Delight with a personalized kit of supplements, tailored to their individual needs. No two packs are the same (save for the fact we are all lacking in Vitamin D here in Minnesota), and it’s been interesting to see how the team is responding to the individual supplements.

While there are no miracle, overnight changes to report, I have noticed that I have perked up a bit after a few weeks of the supplements. And a couple of women on the team have noted they feel more alert, focused and centered. I know the changes with vitamins are slow and steady, so here’s to hoping the changes, while minor, continue for all of us.

I love that it’s personalised. It really helps speaks to what we need the most. The packaging is beautiful, too.

Hello!

I have a clothing line – Katie Brown Los Angeles (KBLA) – a line of beautiful, classic, timeless basics, made in LA. I want to fundamentally change the way women think about clothing within ten years. We need to move away from hyper consumerism and towards conscientious consumerism: Slow Fashion – Slow Living.

Here is my website: http://www.katiebrownla.com. If you feel like it, specifically check out the “Storytelling” section.

I would love to collaborate…

Cheers to healthy ways of being,

Katie

Thanks for sharing! Definitely went on and tried this for myself and, as a medical professional, I can say this looks pretty great. The only thing is that everyone should do a little of their own research before embarking on any journey involving supplements. Garlic, as Care/of recommended for me, is not as good for heart health in those with a pervasive family history of heart disease, as is in my family, as Omega3 fatty acids from fish or vegetables. Also something to be aware of is that too much of the fat soluble vitamins A,D,E, or K can be… Read more »
