Handcrafted Mother’s Day Decor for the Lady Who Loves to Host

Interiors & Decor

**GIVEAWAY ALERT! Find out how to enter to receive two (2) Cricut Makers at the end of the post.**

My parents were cleaning out their basement this weekend and sharing pictures of the clippings and drawings they had saved of ours over the years. Countless drawings, cards, handmade figurines made of clay. Now that I have children of my own, I totally understand why parents hold on to everything. Each piece is like a little artifact that freezes time, a power I know all parents wish they could harness to capture a snippet of each stage in their child’s life. Because we can’t keep them little forever, we hold on to all of it.

I’m big on handmade gifts for holidays like Mother’s Day for this reason. However, my recent quest to hold on to fewer things has left me wondering how to handle giving others something sentimental that in hindsight might be added to the pile of junk they can’t bear to face tossing.

So I wanted to create a couple of ways we could embrace the sweetness of homemade gifts with items they could reuse again and again. We designed a tablescape complete with complimentary napkins and table runners that look sophisticated enough to use beyond holidays with graphics that can be applied in a variety of different ways. Here are three ways to use our artwork with your Cricut machine this Mother’s Day!

Project One: Tassel Napkin Set

A little pattern in subtle shades can go a long way! With three patterns to choose from you can mix and match these napkins or select one pattern and make a consistent set. I encourage you to get into the details with this one! Add tassels, a hand-painted edge, or go with a quality fabric like linen or chambray.

I suggest painting the edges of each napkin with fabric paint to give it a more finished look, as iron-on vinyl can peel if you adhere it to the edges of your fabric.

Project Two: Chambray Table Runner

I love the idea of a runner that mimics an intricate organic centerpiece! You can use just about any fabric for this piece but we loved the idea of incorporating chambray into the mix. You’ll need to trim our template depending on how long you want your runner to be, but it is easy to connect and overlay the iron-on vinyl with this pattern so it looks almost seamless. Again, don’t forget to add details! We selected tassels here to keep the table setting consistent.

Project Three: Secret Garden Coffee Mug Set

All mothers need an excuse for a moment of quiet with a hot cup of coffee or tea. I love the simplicity of these sketches cut from adhesive foil and placed on simple white mugs. You could easily have your kids help you with this project and then sign the bottom! We’ve included a set of botanicals to choose from so you can make a set with different illustrations or place more than one on your cup for a fun little garden around the entire width.

Project Four: Personalized Wine Bottle

Know a mama who loves to “rosé all day”? Consider removing a wine label and wrapping that pink bottle in our Secret Garden decal!

Project Five: Chambray Pillow

There are plenty of existing pillows this project could work well on! You could overlay one of our botanical prints on a patterned pillow or find something like this chambray one and add tassels.

Project Six: Artwork

All of our sketches came from my sketchbook and were originally designed to be prints. Consider cutting them out of white paper and mounting them with foam to make a cool shadow box effect.

Which project are you going to make?

You say you don’t have a Cricut Maker? Well, we (and thanks to an incredibly generous offer from Cricut) want to change that! We are giving away two (2) Cricut Makers to one pair of people over on our Instagram feed. Tag a friend (or better yet, your mom!) and tell us what you would create together using a Cricut Maker. Be sure to follow both Wit & Delight and Cricut to be eligible. No purchase necessary; multiple entries do not increase odds of winning. One entrant (and their “tagee”) will be selected at random to receive the Cricut Makers. Giveaway will conclude on May 1st at 12 noon CST. Good luck!

Let us know what you think! You can check out all the project available on Cricut Design Space as well as our past projects.
