13 Places Our Winter Wanderlust is Taking Us

Travel & Leisure

It’s true. Almost everything looks better in the snow. I might be bias given where I’ve decided to live and build my life, but there are a lot of you Southern Cali followers who get really excited when you see an Instagram of a lightly dusted cobblestone street somewhere in Scandinavia. Because traveling allows us to get a little taste of the life we don’t live every day, we felt it was time to do a round-up of winter destinations that will give you that snow fix you’ve been jonesing for. Enjoy the eye candy, book that ticket, and cozy up next to that wood burning fireplace. Just don’t forget to dress for the weather!

Quebec City, Quebec, Canada

With loads of culture, history, food and the great outdoors, Quebec City is the perfect destination for anyone looking to experience a Europeanesque adventure (without having to cross the pond!).

Estes Park, CO

Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, a trip to Estes Park promises majestic skylines, roaming wildlife and miles and miles of wilderness. Outdoor adventures, here we come!

Flatrock House, Shadoken, NY

A modern mountain escape, visiting the Flatrock House will leave you relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated. Located in the Catskill mountains, approximately 2.5 hours from the big apple, you’ll find your home away from home. Book your stay here.

Cannon Beach, OR

Known for it’s long, sandy shoreline and sweeping ocean views, Cannon Beach is truly a Northwest gem. Take a day trip from Portland to the beautiful and moody coastline. It’s no surprise National Geographic listed it as one of the 100 most beautiful places in the world in 2013.

A-Frame Haus, Heber City, UT

Originally built by the owner’s grandfather 30 years ago, the A-Frame Haus is the perfect place to disconnect while enjoying the 20 acres of private mountain property. Guests can bike, ski, hike and most importantly, relax. Book your stay here.

Escape Destinations

Sedona, AZ

Between its towering red-rock formations and mesmerizing sunsets, Sedona is the perfect setting for a romantic getaway. Enjoy the 300+ miles of trails, a delicious brunch at one of many fine restaurants, or a pottery class at the Sedona Arts Center.

Catalina Island, CA

Southwest of Los Angeles, lined in palm trees and cabanas, this resort town has everything you’d want from an island retreat. Discover delightful cuisines, family-friendly water sports, and an intriguing history.

Austin, TX

“Small town feel with big city bustle”, as they say. Bring your appetite when visiting Austin, as you’ll find yourself in the barbecue capital of the universe.

Santa Fe, NM

Sitting in the Sangre de Cristo foothills, Santa Fe makes for an unforgettable adventure. I am currently working on a story about my recent trip to this distinctive and vibrant city, stay tuned!

Savannah, GA

After a recent cultural revival, Savannah’s long-existing beautiful oak trees and cobblestone squares now coexist with trendy stores and contemporary restaurants, making it a top travel destination any time of the year. Embrace the rich history, fun nightlife, and Southern hospitality.

Grand Getaways

Hallstatt, Austria

Just a 3 1/2 train ride from Vienna through the beautiful mountains of Austria, Hallstatt’s picture-perfect setting will take your breath away.

Andalusia, Spain

A foodie’s dream! Stroll the narrow, whitewashed alleys as you taste your way through endless tapas bars.

Levin Iglut, Finland

Fall asleep beneath the stars and experience what it’s like to stay in a luxury glass igloo alongside the Finish wilderness. Bonus: You’re very likely to see the northern lights!

I’m biased but I’ll also throw in Whistler, BC if you’re after a winter getaway. The village, the Scandinavian spa, the winter sports activities, and all the chalets. It’s one of my favourite places.

Cannon Beach is one of my favorite places on the West Coast – all the little coastal towns along 101 are fantastic and so quaint.

Literally just came back from Quebec City and Montreal this past weekend. Granted I was there for work and they were in the middle of a serious cold snap (between 0-5F), but it was beautiful. I vowed to go back to QC when it was a bit more bearable, and I had time to spend!
