Ever since Joe, Winnie, and I moved into our home, we’ve been updating the space to fit best for our lifestyle—first as a family of three, then four, and now five. There have been plenty of renovations along the way, lots of design changes, and our fair share of furniture rearranging to keep up with my always tinkering creative mind.
I have so much love for this home that we made our own, and I’m really, really glad that so many of you do, too. Today I’m answering ten of the questions I’m asked most often about our home, from paint color to furniture to my favorite room in the house to decorate. If you have any other questions, please feel free to leave them for me in the comments!
I’ve been asked this question more than any other. The paint color in our kitchen, living room, and sunroom is White Dove by Benjamin Moore. This was the color of all our molding so we stuck with it throughout the entire main floor of the house.
Many of the rugs in our home are vintage, but you can find this one on Amazon! The brand is nuLOOM and it’s the Ethel Medallion Area Rug in 8 x 10” in the color rust. It’s held up so well to the high-traffic environment that is our house.
We have lived here for 5 years. We bought this home because of the character and the neighborhood. We are close to EVERYTHING and you can’t build houses like they used to make them. We overlooked a lot of red flags because we were emotionally attached to this place and have learned so much about homeownership throughout our time here.
The color is Narragansett Green from Benjamin Moore! There was so much drama in selecting this color. In the end, we wanted the kitchen to feel cozy and that meant going darker with our paint selection. We love how it turned out.
We went with the customizable Belgian Flax Linen Roman Shades in the color “Natural” from Barn & Willow. I love how simple it was to measure and install these!
This room is definitely one of the most highly frequented rooms in the house. It’s the first room you see when walking through the front door, and it’s the one I’ve rearranged more times than any other (see proof here). And because I share it on social media with regularity, I’m asked questions about its furnishings quite often. Here are all the details:
Leather Sofa: Article Texada Sofa in Taos Brown & Honey Oak
Chairs: Article Otio Lounge Chairs in Mist Gray
Ottoman: Article Macca Ottoman in Juniper Green
White Sofa: Article Gabriola Loveseat
Bookcase: Ikea Billy Bookcase
Side Table: Article Tana Stool
My favorite room to design was the sunroom. Maybe it’s because it was the space we added to give us some extra square footage, but the high ceilings and beams and windows make it such an enjoyable room to spend time in every day.
Joe and I discovered the magic of sleeping with separate duvets on a trip to Scandinavia years ago. All of the beds at the places we stayed were draped in two matching duvets, and we both slept better on that trip than we had in…a while. We decided to implement this new (to us) take on bedding once we got home, and we haven’t changed our tune since. The duvets on our bed right now are from Parachute…they’re SO comfortable.
I made it a few years ago when we were looking to add both more seating and more storage into our living room. The base of the bench is a cabinet from IKEA, and we added some additional lumber and leather handles to it, plus a DIY pad on top. You can find a tutorial for how to make it in this post!
My favorite places to shop are listed below. If you’re decorating a new home, I would encourage you to do a little browsing and shopping each week. It can become really overwhelming when it comes time to make a purchase and the more comfortable you are with all your options and what’s available, the less overwhelmed you might feel.
I also found “browsing” my favorite sites consistently was a great way to keep from impulse buying on sites like Etsy and Chairish. I now know what I’m looking for and feel less nervous about missing a unique item or sale because I’m focused on what I like, not just what is available at that moment.

Thanks for your comment, I’m glad to hear it! We love it too.
Such a great space! The pops of rich color add such beautiful dimension to the kitchen, but I have to agree that the sunroom is my favorite!
Thank you for the kind comment, Tina!
Hi, I really enjoyed your article thank you for sharing your resources! Could you also share where you got the living room rug? And the rug shown in the maiden home article? thank you!
Thanks for your comment, Stacy! Both the living room rug and the rug in the Maiden Home article are vintage. The rug in our dining room does have a similar color scheme to the living room rug, and that one isn’t vintage! You can find it here.
I’ve never heard of the double duvet idea, but I love it! Thanks for the idea!
